Exploring the Future of Façade Design and Architectural Innovation

Fools for Façades is an independent editorial publication on the architectural envelope. We write about the buildings, materials, people, and ideas that shape how cities meet the sky — from civic landmarks to the systems that hold them together, from material breakthroughs to the engineering decisions hidden behind a single panel of glass.

Founded as an editorial experiment between London and Milan, we now reach over 9,000 readers across 144 countries — engineers at Arup, architects at Foster + Partners, façade specialists at Permasteelisa, technical leads at Schüco and Saint-Gobain, and the students and observers who want to understand the discipline from the inside.

Our Mission

To produce serious, independent journalism on the architectural envelope.
We cover the projects, products, people, and arguments that move the field forward — from completed buildings to the systems behind them, from technical breakthroughs to the cultural and political questions that shape what gets built. Every story we publish is reported by practitioners or people deeply embedded in the field, edited to be useful to the professionals who read us, and held to a single standard: it has to tell a working architect, engineer, or specifier something they didn't already know.
We don't run press releases. We don't publish branded content disguised as editorial. And we don't believe the façade industry is well served by either.

Our Vision

In a decade, the way we build façades will be unrecognisable from how we build them today. Materials will be smarter, performance demands will be tighter, and the people responsible for the architectural envelope will be working at the intersection of architecture, engineering, computation, and climate science.

Fools for Façades exists to document that shift in real time — and to become the reference the next generation of practitioners returns to when they want to understand how the discipline arrived where it is. Not the loudest publication in the room. The most trusted.
